Summit Industrial Products Implements The WERCS to Provide Comprehensive Hazard Communications Software

New Functionality Streamlines Private Label and MSDS Creation

Albany, NY (September 7, 2005) The Wercs, Ltd., the global leader in material safety data sheet (MSDS) authoring software, announced today that Summit Industrial Products (Summit), a leader in synthetic lubricant technology has implemented The WERCS for all MSDS authoring requirements. This solution process includes full integration to Summit s ERP solution, Ross Systems. In addition to the standard implementation, additional functionality was developed to automate a critical business process of creating customer specific private labels and MSDSs.

Summit s primary business is to develop and manufacture specialty lubricants under private label relationships. The company authors more than 5,000 MSDSs and 25,000 labels for approximately 5,000 products. This number is compounded by all the customers who have requested customized MSDSs and labels with their product names and logos.

As a value-add, we create customer-specific MSDSs and labels for a large-percentage of customers, said Kelly Starr, vice president of finance for Summit. This is a service we can provide to our distributors to help them be compliant while retaining their brand. The value of having an integrated solution with both Ross and The WERCS adds tremendous efficiencies and provides real business value.

Although Summit s value-added service created efficiencies for its customers, internally there was a lot of duplicate authoring under the previous methodology. As such, Summit chose The WERCS to provide comprehensive authoring capabilities with a unique product alias functionality. This new functionality allows Summit to give its products multiple aliases when authoring without additional effort. The alias attributes includes customer name, address, logo and product name. In essence, these aliases serve as Summit s customer identification. Summit can now create one MSDS or label, assign an alias and print.

The alias functionality is extremely valuable for label creation, said Starr. Because labels have to be produced for each outbound shipment, we had to manually produce each label specific to our customer s needs; we literally had a huge database of labels that were difficult to manage and maintain. The WERCS is integrated into both the formulation and order processing modules of our Ross System; the label production process is now seamless. The label is queued for printing immediately after the order is entered into Ross. The result is enhanced quality, elimination of errors due to re-typing and reduced processing time.
