Baxter Reduces Total Cost-of-Ownership by Using The WERCS® in a Hosted Environment
Baxter International Inc. is a global health-care company that, through its subsidiaries, assists health-care professionals and their patients with treatment of complex medical conditions. In total, the company has 250 global facilities and is represented in more than 110 countries around the world, employing more than 48,000 team members. Baxter produces approximately 200 biopharmaceuticals, most of which are liquid and require a MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet) for safe handling.
In 1998, this major pharmaceutical manufacturer purchased a commercial MSDS authoring system that was hosted on its servers. Although this commercial system met the initial needs of Baxter, it was becoming increasingly difficult to maintain the system due to product support and platform issues. In addition, Baxter's already strained IT staff, had to maintain the server, the program and perform quarterly regulatory updates. In 2001, the company felt that it was time to transition to a more seamless solution.
Color Resolutions International Case Study
Certain manufacturers are required to calculate and report the quantity of volatile organic compounds (VOC) and the hazardous air pollutants (HAPs) that evaporate in the air as a result of operating a manufacturing facility. These manufacturers need to obtain permits and report emission calculations to demonstrate compliance. This involves the expensive testing of each product for VOC content or the review of all relevant formulation components and thus multiplying the VOC/HAPs content by the consumption of the product. This is a daunting task for manufacturers in the paints and coating industry who use and supply hundreds of products that contain VOC/HAPSs.
